Is not incongruous that the Ninja Restaurant is located precisely in the political area behind a wooden wall that opens up into an anonymous entrance towards the realm of the shadows. You are welcomed at the entrance and escorted by a "ninja" through a itinerary that descend in secret passages, between mobile small bridges and walls that opens up, small caves with water and vegetation, fake flames that breaks the darkness: the athmosphere intend to recall the antique feeling of a secret sect inaccessible castle back at the time of the shogun. Discrection is mandatory, even at the tables with sliding diving panels and grills. According to the japanese custom, first you have to choose what to drink, between the "Ninja Cocktails" and a Ninja selection of japanese wines. The menu is presented in a dark roll offering various options, among wich a "Yamato Damashii" (Japanese Spirit) in 11 courses, often based upon different themes. For example, you can start with breadsticks (accompanied with paté de fois gras) shaped as a ninja star, that represents the "shuriken", metallic devices with essential edges to the ninja's (to kill, immobilize, or climb walls). There are the extraordinary "Turban shell bombs a la escargot", served on a grain bed that gets reached by the fire and runs on a wavy line thread, light up by the ninja weiter. A "mistery dish" creates a little bit of suspance, while a sort of japanese bouillabasse is prepared with care at the moment. At the tables arrives also a japanese illusionist that makes coins appears and disappear, manovering with an incredibile ability a lighter. The ninja's we're also known for being masters in preparing sushi, it can be noticed when pieces and rolls that are served leaves space to the creativity (soy sauce isn't necessary). The desserts are also very particular, starting from a cheesecake in the shape of a frog and a maccha ice cream cake in the shape of a bonsai. The illusionist then comes back with hocus-pocus of cards engaging with the customers. A card gets signed, and then put back in deck and recovered in a very mysterious way, that will remain to the customer as a small gift, inside an "pochibukuro" envelope. Prices are affordable (the Yamato Damashii is 6.9999 yen, 52 euros of the actual value exchange). The customers gets accompanied at the restaurant exit and when the wall opens to the outside it seems to have just got back from another world. A always smily ninja opens a roll with the words "come back again" written.
